Le retour forcé et les massacres des réfugiés Hutu en RDC : une tragédie occultée de l'histoire contemporaine

L'un des chapitres les plus sombres et souvent méconnus de l'histoire des Grands Lacs concerne le sort tragique des réfugiés Hutu rwandais en République Démocratique du Congo (ancien Zaïre) entre 1996 et 1998. Après le génocide des Tutsi au Rwanda en 1994, plus de 1,2 million de Hutu, dont des civils innocents mais aussi des ex-FAR et Interahamwe, ont fui vers l'est du Zaïre. Ils y ont été installés dans de vastes camps humanitaires gérés par le HCR et des ONG internationales.

Cependant, ce déplacement massif a donné lieu à une opération militaire et politique qui a conduit à l'un des plus grands massacres de réfugiés de l'histoire récente, impliquant l'Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) de Paul Kagame et les forces de l'Alliance des Forces Démocratiques pour la Libération du Congo-Zaire (AFDL) dirigée par Laurent-Désiré Kabila.
